GARY TAYLOR 2015 SOUL MUSIC.COM INTERVIEW
Phone interview recorded April 26, 2015

Although known initially as a songwriter - thanks to his work with artists like The Whispers, Anita Baker and Lalah Hathaway among others - Gary Taylor began creating an audience for himself among discerning music buyers with the 1988 release of his much-acclaimed Virgin album, "Compassion." In the years since, he's released some eleven albums - mostly on his own Morning Crew label - at the same time, building a dedicated following in the UK where a number of his recordings have been released through Expansion Records.

He's finally doing his first full-length performance in the UK on May 22 as the special guest of Najee (with whom he's recorded and occasionally performed). David Nathan caught up with him to talk history and his excitement about his upcoming British show...

About the Writer
David Nathan is the founder and CEO of SoulMusic.com and began his writing career in 1965; beginning in 1967, he was a regular contributor to Blues & Soul magazine in London before relocating to the U.S. in 1975 where he served as U.S. editor for the publication for several decades and began being known as 'The British Ambassador Of Soul.' From 1988 to 2004, he wrote prolifically for Billboard, has penned bios, produced and written liner notes for box sets and reissue CDs for over a thousand projects. He returned to London in 2009 where he has helped create SoulMusic.com Records as a leading reissue label.
