ANGELA BOFILL: INTUITION EXPANDED EDITION (SMR)
Angela had a modest start in the music business, but gradually made her mark with the help of Narada Michael Walden, among others. And of course, having a voice to die for!

Here’s her eighth album first issued in 1988, ten years after her debut “Angie” (also re-released by SMR last year) and it’s her only release for Capitol Records.

With its strong hookline and catchy theme “Love Is In Your Eyes” kicks off the CD, then quickly moves on into the jerky “Intuition” where a peppery, light funk melody rules the song. “Everlasting Love”, sultry and sensual, is mellow against a dreamy chorus that brings the song out into the open. “For You And I” is another smoothie, with the lovely added attraction of Peabo Bryson; high in beauty, and good for the soul. While “Long Gone” and “Special Lover” hit the mid tempo button as they chug along with few musical distractions. Angela, born in The Bronx, wrote a pair of tracks here –“Love Overtime” and “Fragile, Handle With Care” , the latter being a fully blown slice of passion, highlighting she’s also an extremely talented composer.

Shame there weren’t more included here 'cos I love it! My overall feeling is that the lady, perhaps, wasn’t absolutely sure of herself, and was cautiously hoping to find a more suitable, or permanent, niche for herself with this release. Having said that, the re-issue provides compulsive listening, showing her to be an extremely rare talent indeed. But, you don’t need me to tell you that aye?
