Certainly in the UK - where he is considered pop royalty. having been a chartmaking recording artist since the late '50s - and in many countries throughout the world, other than the US (where he has actually had eight Top 40 hit singles), Cliff Richard (knighted in 1995, the first British pop artist to receive such status) has enjoyed an amazing career through consistent live performances and recordings.

Sir Cliff's 'connection' with soul music dates back to his early exposure to R&B and during the '70s, his UK TV show included none other than Aretha Franklin in a rare British television appearance.

In 2011, he recorded the album "Soulicious," a series of duets with key soul music artists including Peabo Bryson, Freda Payne, Percy Sledge, Roberta Flack, Brenda Holloway, Candi Staton and Dennis Edwards of The Temptations. With production by Lamont Dozier and the late Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson, the CD is Cliff's first 'soul' album and was followed by a late 2011 UK tour featuring many of the artists on the CD.

The album is the basis for a great conversation with's David Nathan at a New Year's Eve party in Paris. Showcasing five tracks from the album, David renewed the initial conversation with the genial Sir Cliff via a phone call to Barbados, where the UK's longest-running constant chartmaker lives...
